Review: With the flaming glow of Fire Mountain (Or Mt. Fryingpan, if you prefer) on the horizon, Goku, Bulma and Oolong are close to reaching their destination, with Yamcha and Puar tailing close behind them.
Pilaf, on the other hand, is no closer to possessing even one more of the balls because of Shu and Mai failing in their missions time and time again (though not for lack of trying, mind you), and is on the warpath when the beaten pair return to his castle to report their latest failure, locking them up as punishment.
Meanwhile, Fire Mountain is burning bright when the trio reach the foot of the castle-topped mountain. Oolong makes yet another run for it, unwilling to face te horrors he believes wait for them on the mountain, but is quickly put in his place (in the bushes) when Bulma calls piggy (or Pee pee. lol) and stops him in his tracks.
Yamcha and Puar are discussing the trio’s chances of actually getting the Dragon Ball from the Ox King when a young girl being chased by a T-rex comes running by screaming murder… that is, until she attack the dinosaur and takes off its head by accident, then disintergrates it. Yamcha knocks her out after she attacks him for being a stranger (oh, for the love of…). Strangely enough, Yamcha isn’t effected by this particular girl, but apparently the reason for that is her age; she’s too young in comaprison to him to bother him.
The trio are having little luck finding the Dragon Ball on the mountain, and are being hindered by the flames. Goku takes to the skies on Nimbus to have a better look around, but catches his til on fire and drops back down to dive into a lake to put out his flaming tail, leaving Bulma and Oolong on their own… then the Ox King (Gyumao) finds them.
Oolong wets himself with fear as Ox questions Bulma for the reason of their being on the mountain; thinking they’ve come to steal his treasure, and he thinks Bulma is lying (rightfully so) when she tells him that they aren’t there to steal anything, Bulma screams for Goku, who comes running back, only to give away the game to the Ox King. Ox attacks him in fury, but Goku disorientates him by flying around his head…
It takes him a moment, but the Ox King recognises the Nimbus as that of his old teacher Roshi, and asks where he could track the old man down. He also knows of Goku’s power pole (Nyoibou), and tells Goku that he and Gohan used to both be Roshi’s pupils, Gohan the best, with Ox as a close-second.
Now seemingly friends, Ox asks Goku to track-down Roshi and borrow an item from him call ed the Bansho Fan; it’s the only thing that can put out the fire of Fire Mountain. Goku happily agrees, but asks for the Dragon Ball in the King’s castle in return. As Goku turns to leave, Ox calls him back to ask if he could also find his missing daughter Chi-Chi, who he sent to find Roshi some time earlier and is yet to return home. If Goku finds her, Ox asks if he would be able to take her along with him to get the Bansho fan… if he does, Ox will let Goku marry her.
Watching from behind a nearby rock as Ox shows Goku a photo of his daughter, Yamcha and Puar are in shock to find that the girl that Yamcha knocked out cold earlier is, in fact, Chi-Chi! They dive off in hurry (while Goku also flies away) to make sure she’s alright, and finds her in the same place they left her; knocked out but fine. Making sure she doesn’t attack him, Yamcha sucks up to her a bit by telling her he’s in love with her (The boy’s a player!). Chi-Chi starts swooning, not noticing when Goku flies overhead and Yamcha makes a quick get away so he isn’t seen.
When Goku drops out of the sku and calls her, Chi-Chi thinks that maybe he’s in love with her too, though the comment kinda goes over little Goku’s head. In any case, Goku tells he that her dad sent him to find her and get the Bansho fan. Whilst hopping on the the Nimbus, Chi Chi uses Goku’s tail to climb up a little easier, effectively pralysing him for a moment, which Yamcha overfrom the bushes close-by… now he knows Goku’s weak spot and will use it to his advantage.
Goku’s back to his crotch-patting ways, checking Chi Chi over wth his foot before she smacks him with enough force to knock him of the Nimbus.
A little later, the pair find Roshi’s island, and Master Roshi himself…

Characters Intoduced: Ox King, Chi Chi,

Returning Characters: Goku, Bulma, Oolong, Yamcha, Puar, Shu, Pilaf, Mai, Turtle, Roshi

Favourite Moment: Chi Chi’s head-chopping intro. She’s pretty tough for a little girl.

Score: 5 out of 7.

Final Thoughts: The introduction of more characters to a series is always interesting to see and, for me, Chi Chi is one I’ve been waiting for. I like this episode.

Screencaps: will be uploaded shortly.
